White knights step in to save Rays

Brothers Leagues Club and Direct Wholesale Tyres are the white knight sponsors of the Northern Rays, stepping forward to ensure the regional team remains in the HART Sapphire Series for the rest of the season.

Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark said the business community had rallied behind the team and demonstrated a strong commitment to helping women’s sports thrive in regional Queensland.

“It’s a wonderful result that we have two sponsors stepping forward to ensure that the Northern Rays can continue to play and continue to offer a pathway to elite level sport for regional women and girls,” she said.

Brothers Leagues Club CEO Justin Wilkins said the club was a community-focused organisation and wanted to help this important team remain viable.

“We know how challenging the economic environment is at the moment but we’re a community organisation and we’re part of a close-knit community that supports each other,” he said.

“Supporting a team at this level is a great fit for us and we’re thrilled we can be part of the Northern Rays and keep this important pathway open for young women in our region,” he said.

Direct Wholesale Tyres Director Graham Cotter said he had a family of netballers and knew just how important the HART Sapphire Series was to the netball community.

“My daughter and my granddaughter are netballers – they’d have my guts for garters if they knew we could help and stood idly by! Improving opportunities for female athletes in regional Queensland is important and at Direct Wholesale Tyres we’re thrilled to be able to help the cause,” he said.

GM High Performance and Sports Entertainment Richard McInnes said these two sponsors had contributed significantly to the survival of the Northern Rays in the HART Sapphire Series.

“The business community has rallied behind the Northern Rays and we are seeing these local businesses step forward and protect this team,” he said.

“Brothers Leagues Club and Direct Wholesale Tyres are platinum level sponsors and we are now in the process of finalising a Principal Partner, that we hope to announce very soon.

“We still have Gold and Corporate Partner opportunities available and welcome further interest from those community-minded organisations who are keen to give back and support this team,” he said.
