14 Aug Blockbuster opening round for HART Sapphire Series
Netball’s premier competition in Queensland is set for an explosive start as the HART Sapphire Series prepares for an exciting opening weekend.
All three games of Round 1 action will be played at the home of netball in Queensland, Nissan Arena, with the State’s leading semi-professional players to put their skills on show on the same court as their Suncorp Super Netball counterparts.
Finalists the Brisbane North Cougars get the season underway against Carina Leagues Club Tigers at 3pm, followed by Jets against the Bond University Bull Sharks at 5pm, whilst regining Premiers the Wildcats face USC Thunder in the final game of the round at 7pm.
All three fixtures will be played on Nissan Arena’s show court.
Netball Queensland’s General Manager of Venues, Events, Competitions and Commercial, Ben Mannion, said he expects the competition to go to another level in 2020.
“Like many sporting competitions, the HART Sapphire Series has experienced an extended break due to COVID-19, but after a prolonged pre-season I know both the players and coaches are excited to get underway this weekend,” Mannion said.
“The Wildcats will obviously be motivated to go back-to-back but all of the clubs are a genuine chance to challenge this year, and I think that level of competition is really beneficial in terms of continuing to elevate the HART Sapphire Series.”
“The HART Sapphire Series is designed to unearth that next wave of talent in Queensland and with all 8 Suncorp Super Netball clubs currently in our backyard I’m certain that provides an extra level of motivation for these players to put their best foot forward.”
“We’ve already seen Jets Netball defender Bridey Condren get her chance with West Coast Fever in recent weeks and I have no doubt the other clubs will be keeping a close eye on the HART Sapphire Series I order to identify other stars of the future.”
The opening round of the 2020 HART Sapphire and Ruby Series’ gets underway on Sunday 16 August at Nissan Arena from 3:00pm, with tickets available on the door for $10.
